For the Bank of Georgia TECHO supplied complete interiors for the newly renovated building that used to house the Ministry of Transport in Tbilisi. The building is an outstanding example of nineteen-seventies Soviet architecture, and is one of the architectural gems of the world. Completed in 1975, it was designed by architect George Chakhava, who at the time was Minister of Transport of the Georgian SSR. The building is sensitively composed into the sloping terrain and is characterised by a cascading arrangement of 5 mutually interlocked concrete blocks utilising a “Space City” concept. Thanks to this it is locally known as the “LEGO Building”. The Georgian government has conferred the building with national monument status!
Although we had previously delivered some small orders for this client, including furnishing 18 branches in Georgia, this time we delivered a comprehensive project comprising the complete interior furnishing of the bank’s new headquarters. The nature of this building made it a very demanding project. The actual installation of the furniture and interior fittings was preceded by a long planning process that started when we met with the architect, customer and the individual contractors. It was necessary to coordinate all work so as to preserve the overall building concept and distinctive style. The client’s objective was simple – to create a modern and spacious interior with relaxation zones and first class office furnishings. In total 700 workstations were supplied along with 20 meeting rooms and 7 custom made reception areas.
