One of the most successful installations of TECHO in Great Britain was the order for the extravagant and architecturally interesting building of Queen Mary University of London, which was carried out in March 2005. In the execution of this order TECHO had the opportunity to work with the leading London design studio ALSOP & Partners Parkgate Studio, which is focussed on the architecture and town planning. The architects combined function with aesthetics in the design of this building and it resulted in a very bold plan (projects, drawings) of a 3 storey building in the form of a translucent envelope. Emphasis was placed on the use of daylight and art and the outer facing was of a special construction. The fully glazed pavilion has the character of an atrium. A large multi-functional laboratory is located on the ground floor, which is visible from all parts of the building. Another peculiarity is the meeting rooms suspended inside the building in the form of cells. The internal boundary of both upper floors is marked out by open plan administrative areas. On the ground floor are both open plan offices and separate offices.
As part of this project TECHO was able to furnish non-standard office space. The furniture that TECHO supplied was specially designed for the client on the basis of the requirement of the architect with colours to compliment the interiors. TECHO supplied primarily free standing furniture for 370 workstations based on the ARKUS, FOCUS and HORIZONT ranges. The order was all the more demanding because of the very short installation period of 3 weeks. Despite this the work was performed with precision and to a high professional standard.
