Office furniture producer TECHO has acquired its second state-of-the-art laser edging machine

9.4.2013

PRAGUE, 9 April 2013 – TECHO, producer and supplier of office furniture and interiors, has continued in its investment programme into unique laser edge banding technology. The new CNC machine enables a laser to apply edges to curved/non-rectangular surfaces. This results in no visible join between the top and edges giving the furniture a high-quality aesthetic appearance. In total there are only seven machines of this type in the world of which six can be found in Germany. TECHO is the first company outside Germany to have such a machine at its disposal.

Last year TECHO acquired a single-sided laser edge banding machine for applying straight edges to rectangular MFC, MDF and honeycomb panels. „The introduction of revolutionary laser technology into production at TECHO has enabled us to produce products that meet the strictest requirements for design, function, economy and the environment. Thanks to this technology the edge joint is water resistant and therefore prevents dampness from penetrating into the base material. Customer response has been very positive,“ says Jiří Kejval, Managing Director of TECHO.

TECHO annually invests tens of millions into the latest production technology. As part of this programme the company this year decided to increase its wood production capacity by adding a CNC machine, which with its revolutionary laser technology is able to apply edges to curved surfaces. Desk material edged in this way has a similar appearance to the joint-less material Corian, which is several times more expensive. In addition, the edges are applied without the use of glue making them more environmentally friendly. The machine Line BAZ322/60/L/K from German producer HOMAG has already arrived at TECHO’s Hostivar production facility and is currently being commissioned. It is only the seventh machine of its type in the world.

The laser edge banding technique

When edging panels using a laser the contact surface of the edging strip is melted with the laser and then pressed against the panel edge. The result is a compact and clean joint with no visible join line. The joint has exceptional water resistant qualities.
