TECHO presents its revolutionary new W.O.T. desk system

PRAGUE, 7th October 2008 – Interior furnishings company TECHO presented its new product, the universal desk system W.O.T. The clean and elegant design was created by the Czech design studio ADR led by Petr Kolář and Aleš Lapka in cooperation with renowned Dutch designer Hans Verboom – who developed the technical solution.

The universality of the W.O.T. (world office table) desk system relates to its unlimited flexibility – it can be placed in almost any environment. It allows the creation of not just manager workstations (executive version) but also standard workstations or reception desks.

A unique feature of the desk is the method of construction of the desktops. The MFC (melamine faced chipboard) commonly used for desktops has been replaced by a “sandwich top”. This is new to the Czech market. The top is constructed as a three-layer sandwich consists of a top and bottom panel with a honeycomb filling and a supporting frame. The desktop is self supporting and no external frame is required. Thanks to this there is a 30% material saving compared to standard desk systems. This has a positive environmental impact.

Low weight, which enables very easy handling of the desktop, is achieved due to the honeycomb filling. This filling is made from recycled material. The lightness of the honeycomb desktops also results in significantly lower transport costs. At the same time this technology provides a 40% time saving for assembly. The manufacturer also guarantees the desktop for 30 x assembly and disassembly, which ensures maximum flexibility over the product lifetime. The desk can easily and quickly be disassembled, transported and reassembled. No other competing product with similar characteristics exists in this category.

Customers will also appreciate the range of sizes available thanks to the aluminium profiles used in the construction. A further important feature of the W.O.T. design is that it is environmentally friendly. The desk system is made partly from recycled material and is itself 100% recyclable.

The design was elaborated in cooperation with Czech design studio ADR, which at the trade fair For Arch received the award Architect of the Year 2008 in the category Completed Buildings.
Studio ADR, managed by Petr Kolář and Aleš Lapka, has designed the desk systems Horizont, Focus and Esprit, the Kubik chair and also the TECHOCENTER layout. The engineering aspects of the desk system were developed by Dutch architect Hans Verboom, who has designed a range of desks systems for TECHO - Arkus, Arkus–A, Citis, Citis-S, Citis-SN, Nestor and the NOVUM accessories range. Many of his designs have received prestigious design awards and are among the most sold desking products in the Netherlands and abroad.
