TECHO partners Eva Jiricna seminar

PRAGUE, 29th September 2008 – Internationally renowned architect Eva Jiricna will give a seminar in Prague during the festival Architectureweek 2008 (29. 9 – 5. 10 2008). One of the partners of the seminar is TECHO, which has a long history of cooperation with Eva Jiricna.

At the seminar Eva Jiricna will talk about her projects in Great Britain and the Czech Republic and the differences between them. A further theme will be the preparation of information and documents for public tenders or how several designers – by definition individualists – can successfully work together in a team. Also considered will be new trends in construction, new materials and the risks associated with their use.

TECHO, which is one of the partners of this event, first started to work with Eva Jiricna in 1997 when installing interiors at the Dancing Building in Prague. The company has also supported books published about her work such as  the book Architects in 1998 and in 2005 the book IN/EX TERIOR the Work of Eva Jiricna, which was officially launched by Václav Havel.

Eva Jiricna’s seminar in Prague will take place at 17:00 on 2.10.2008 on the 6th floor of the Veletržní palác. The capacity is limited and it is therefore necessary to have a ticket in advance. Participation in the festival has already been confirmed by architects from Belgium, France, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, USA and Great Britain.

Eva Jiricna, the internationally renowned architect, was born in 1939 in Zlín. In the summer of 1968 she went to London for a study trip but the Czech authorities prevented her return. She started work at the Louis de Soisson Partnership, where she worked on designing the Brighton Marina. She then started to work with renowned architect Richard Rogers. She has now been living and working in London for over 30 years. In 1984 she opened her own studio – Eva Jiricna Architects (EJA). The studio provides comprehensive services including the design of new buildings, interior designs, the design of objects and furniture. EJA holds a leading position in the areas of innovative use of technology and form thanks to its detailed use and preparation of designs using traditional materials – glass, steel and stone – in a completely modern way. Lightness, transparency and truth to materials are the hallmarks of EJA’s design approach. The studio’s clients include major companies and public institutions, such as Amec plc, Selfridges, Boodle & Dunthorne, Prague Castle, Royal Academy of Arts, Victoria & Albert Museum and Hotel Josef in Prague.
