Nigeria offers opportunities for experienced exporters

PRAGUE, 5th March 2009 – Czech interior fit-out company TECHO has successfully completed a further project in Central Africa. This time it was the furnishing of one of the largest banks in Nigeria - First Bank of Nigeria. In Central Africa TECHO has already delivered tens of projects, but until now all the orders have been for hospitals.

The order for First Bank of Nigeria was a new challenge for the company. Despite the extensive experience from exotic regions, it was the first banking project that TECHO has delivered in Sub-Saharan Africa. The client ordered a complete fit-out for the front office and back office including conference room and bank manager’s office.

No major complications occurred during the delivery of the project, despite the fact that Nigeria has a very bad reputation. „There is a very high level of criminality in the area and at night even the locals stay off the streets. The British-Nigerian company that organised the tender, and the Czech Embassy, took care to ensure the safety of our people” stated Jan Petrák, Strategic Development Manager TECHO.

Although TECHO concentrates most of its activity on the markets of Central and Eastern Europe, is has another three projects on the go in Nigeria and about half as many again in the region as a whole.

„The increase in the price of oil over recent years has kick-started economic growth. This is reflected, among other things, in a significant growth in construction – which is linked to our area of activity. We therefore see great potential here for the future, even though many other countries in the world offer a better environment for doing business. For experienced exporters, Nigeria represents a good opportunity, but I would not recommend Nigeria for beginners,” concluded Jan Petrák.
