TECHO is the first member of the FISP programme outside Great Britain

PRAGUE, 24th June 2008 – Furniture company TECHO has become the first FISP member and certificate holder based outside Great Britain. The main objective of this programme is to ensure best practice with regards to a company’s relationship to the environment and corporate social responsibility in general. It was launched in 2006 by the Furniture Industry Environmental Committee.

The FISP certificate is awarded to companies whose production technology and products fulfil strict criteria for protection of the environment. To date 28 British companies are holders of this certificate, which is only awarded to full members of FISP (Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme).

Members of FISP demonstrate an overriding interest in sustainable development. The programme concentrates on reducing negative impact on the environment and society; primarily by reducing the consumption of natural resources and the production of waste. The main criteria according to which certification is assessed are as follows: attitude to the environment, emissions, waste and rubbish, energy, transport, service life and recycling.

Although fulfilling the conditions for receiving the FISP certificate is not easy, TECHO passed through the entire certification process successfully and without problem – as it has done with many other certification programmes. „We have a whole range of certificates relating to, for example, quality management, the environment, health and safety at work, and the verified origin of wood raw material,“ stated TECHO Quality Manager, Roman Škába, who added: „TECHO fulfilled the requirements of the programme in all categories as well as all criteria decisive for awarding the certificate.“

This certificate is one of the confirmations that the company is aware of its relationship to the environment and that it takes its environmental responsibility seriously. It is also further evidence of the professionalism of this successful company and it will strengthen its competitiveness at home and abroad.
