TECHO presents its red dot award winner at this year’s Designbloku’10
PRAGUE, 15th September 2010 – at this year’s Designblok, interior furnishings company TECHO will present the innovative universal desk system WOT, which picked up a red dot award 2010 for industrial design.
„We consider Designblok to be one of the most important events of its type and for this reason we are giving visitors the opportunity to see our WOT desk, which we also exhibited at the red dot winners’ exhibition at Zeche Zollverein in Essen. The WOT system is our second product to win a red dot award - the first being our Focus desk. It is a great pleasure for us to be able to show local visitors that in the area of office furniture Czech design is at the forefront of international trends,“ says Jiří Kejval, Managing Director TECHO.
Czech design studio ADR, led by Petr Kolář and Aleš Lapka, worked on the elegant design of the WOT desk. „I like clean and elegant forms that are completely subordinate to function. The new production method used for the desktop also makes it a very environmentally friendly product, which is an ever more important aspect,“ states Petr Kolář of ADR.
The man behind technical side of this prize winning product is Dutch architect Hans Verboom, who has designed a range of desk systems for TECHO. „The use of a desktop from an ultra-light sandwich construction with an aluminium core, which is used in aerospace and automotive industries, opened up a lot of exciting possibilities for us. The desktop is self supporting so no metal frame is required. This results in around 30% material savings,“ noted Hans Verboom.

The 12th Annual Days of Design in Prague, Designblok´10, will take place on 5th – 10th October 2010. Designblok takes place across Prague in selected showrooms, boutiques, and galleries. The accompanying programme, which includes the presentation of designers, design studios and a Créme de la créme project in which manufacturers are presented in special instalations, will take place at the Designblok Superstudio, address Bubenská 1 in Prague Holešovicíce, next to Vltavská metro station.
