TECHO’s award winning desk visits Soul, South Korea

PRAGUE, 18 May 2011 – the Czech embassy in South Korea has prepared an interesting event in the Czech Information Centre in Soul. In a permanent exhibition devoted to business opportunities in the Czech Republic, a display has been installed of Czech products that have received the prestigious red dot design award. TECHO has received this award twice. The first time was in 2003 for the design and technical finish of the FOCUS desk, and then again in 2009 for the WOT desk, which visitors to the exhibition can see among the other Czech products. The exhibition continues until 30 June 2011.

The aim of the Korean exhibition is to promote a general awareness of Czech craftsmanship and design and establish potential commercial ties between Korean retailers and Czech producers or design studios. Such events have a long tradition at the Embassy and are organised by people keen to promote the Czech Republic. Evidence of the love for everything “Czech” can be seen in the design of the building itself, which resembles the Town Hall tower in the Old Town Square of Prague.

The exhibition is made up of large format panels; one for each producer. The exhibition also includes drawings and design studies, photographs and models. Our presentation includes not just these large display panels devoted to both products, but also a full-sized WOT desk! The desk with dimensions 1600 x 800 mm is identical to the one that won the red dot award, and was displayed at the Red Dot Museum in Essen Germany. Korea is therefore the second place in the world where our desk has been on display to the public!

This exhibition has prompted a lot of media interest both in Korea and the Czech Republic, which you will find by clicking on the link below.
