TECHO furnished the new ČVUT building on the basis of proposals from students led by architect Seho

PRAGUE, 15 April 2011 – Interior furnishings company TECHO, has furnished the new building of the Faculty of Architecture of the ČVUT in Prague Dejvice. The delivery included special folding work desks that were designed by the students themselves in cooperation with architect Hana Seho. Students not only benefited from the excellent furnishings, but also had the opportunity to acquire valuable experience in their field.

The eight floor building was designed by the first lady of Czech architecture, Alena Šrámková. The minimalist design of the building is broken only by three blocks serving as lecture rooms. The dominant feature is the interior brick-faced 3-floor high glass atrium. The interior is also conceived in the minimalist spirit using primarily concrete and glass.

On the basis of a public tender, the interior furnishing for the new ČVUT building in Dejvice was supplied by TECHO, a.s. in consortium with Metrostav divize 1 at the end of 2010 and beginning of 2011. The order covered the supply of 380 workstations including lecture theatres, study rooms and studios. In addition to the standard furniture from the Esprit and Arkus ranges, TECHO also supplied bookshelves, fitted counters, seating and wardrobes.

The interior of the university building in Dejvice is arranged as one open-space dominated by a central staircase and large open atrium. The impression of space is reinforced by transparent partitions from TECHO installed between corridors and relaxation areas for students. „The main task in the installation of the interior was to create a friendly student environment that does not have the claustrophobic feeling of many educational buildings,“ says Petr Faldus, project manager for TECHO on the intention of the architects.

An important part of the order was the special folding tables for practical lessons that were designed on the basis of suggestions from students and subsequent elaboration by Ing. arch. Hana Seho from the Architecture Faculty of the ČVUT.

„The excellent cooperation with students and their architecture lecturer resulted in a multi-functional folding desk that graces these studios,“
comments Faldus on the order. The desks have been designed with respect to the minimalist concept of the building and its interior. A wood/metal combination offers maximum comfort for work with architectural models, and thanks to the variable base it can comfortably be folded into the horizontal position. „The desks then serve not just as a working surface but also as presentation boards on which, for example, drawings can be displayed“, adds Faldus.

The official opening of the building took place in February in the presence of Czech President Václav Klaus and invited guests from the Czech architectural community. „I am confident that the new ČVUT building can boast one of the best arranged interiors in the Czech education sector. Future leading Czech architects will study their subject in an environment that can inspire them,“ says Petr Hampl, Sales Director for the TECHO group.
