Designer
René  Šulc


Born on 22 February 1978 in Mladá Boleslav. After completing studies at Secondary School of Applied Arts, Prague 3 in toys and decorative items under professor Václav Kubát he studied wood shaping and carving at the same school under Štefan Sukup. He then followed up his secondary school studies by studying product design at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, Prague Design Faculty, Zlín under Ak. soch. Pavla Škardy (1997), Ak. soch. Ivan Linhart (from 1999). In 2000 – 2001 he was attached to the Architecture and Design Studio (AAAD Prague) under prof. Ak. arch. Jiří Pelcli. In 2001 he participated in the Summer Vitra Workshop, Domaine Boisbuchet (France), an international workshop organised by the Belgian designer Maarten van Severen. He has received a range of prizes including: Good Design ´96, awarded by the Czech Design Centre for a train toy (1996); ETA - VISIONS, design for the 3rd millennium, 1st prize in the "Kitchen Appliance" category; Excellent Design '99, awarded by the Czech Design Centre for a paint-spraying gun (1999); Office Furniture Design, AAAD competition, 2nd prize (2000); Long-life light fittings competition, held the Czech Design Centre, 1st prize for the Durynk light fitting (2001); Kitchens of the Future, international competition held by Gaz de France, nomination for the final (2002); Inspiration 2003, competition for young interior designers, 1st prize (2003). He has also participated in a large number of exhibitions in the Czech Republic, France, Great Britain and Austria. At the current time he is working with Studio Pelcl and design activities– designs for MM Interier (furniture), Maschio s.r.o. (furniture), LUCIS s.r.o. (lighting), Erilens s.r.o. (medical appliances), Rudorfer CZ s.r.o. (jewellery packaging).
